How to Get the Most from HTML Browser Books1. Taking Delivery You simply save the compressed source for this book by clicking on the link on the download page that is the appropriate version for your computer type. The exception to this is the Adobe Reader® PDF file, which is not compressed. Once you have downloaded the compressed file to your own computer, simply "unzip" or "unstuff" any compressed file using PKZip®, PKWare®, WinZip®, ZipIt® or other decompression utility you regularly use on PC/Windows® machines or StuffIt Expander® or ZipIt®if you have Macintosh®. 2. Never Taking Delivery You can, of course, elect to read this book online. However, if you are using dial-up access, you may find the time delays for loading the musical selections somewhat onerous. 3. If You Don't Like the Built-in Typefaces... A round bullet indicates the presently selected type font for your book to the left. If you do not find any of the built-in font faces shown at the left side of your browser window pleasing, at the top of your screen, find the "Preferences..." selection for the browser you are using. Then choose "Language/Fonts" and pick a "Proportional/Default" typeface that pleases you. It will then appear as the "Default" typeface when you open your book. Select any typesize from 14 to 22 to make reading easier on your eyes. If you need an even larger typesize, select "Text Zoom" under "View" at the top of your screen. 4. "Browse" your book in "local mode". You do not need to be "on line". Once you have downloaded your book, simply open the beginning HTML file ("index.html" or "README.html" in the "dorwiz" directory) from your Safari®, Firefox®, Opera® or Internet Explorer® browser (under "File" at the top of your screen), just as you would word processing or any other application. 5. The Navigation Buttons The buttons at the left will light and change chapters when you click them. A round bullet marks the current chapter. If cookies are enabled in your Browser, this book will "remember" your current chapter for the next three months. 6. Automatic Scrolling The buttons at the bottom of the window will light and change automatic scrolling modes for you. A round bullet marks the currently selected mode. If you find this disconcerting, simply leave the mode at "off" and use the scroll bar at the right of the browser window, just as you ordinarily do when viewing web pages. 7. Background Music "Toggles" You can start and stop background music as you wish. There are some 56 different musical selections available. Each time you select "Turn Music On", at the top of your book window a random offering of the kind of musical selections you have chosen will be selected for you. If you wish to change the selection, simply turn the music off and then turn it on again to select a different random melody. These low-bandwidth MIDI musical selections have been adapted and arranged by John and Erika Keyes to provide pleasant background music to read by. But if you don't like 'em, don't turn the music on! 8. Printing Your Book In some browsers, you can simply click on each chapter text once to activate that frames window. Then, under "File", select the "Print Preview" option. You will need to uncheck the "Headers and Footers" option and check the "Print Wide Pages" option for best results when printing to 8-1/2" x 11" (letter size) paper. However, a much simpler option for printing is to download the Adobe Acrobat® PDF file by clicking on this link: WebWalker Virtual Press - Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz PDF file.
