We are old -- old enough that we don't count on being here for the 2012 election. When you get old, you'll understand that statement. Our age has contributed to making this a short book -- mainly because our minds wander and we forget what we started out to say...
We love this country. The possibility that we could become an autocratic, socialist country modelled on the European "democracies" like France or Germany is terribly irksome.
The Republican Party is presently being directed by folks who simply understand neither the electorate nor the conservative folks who make up by far the vast majority of not just the Republican Party but the country as a whole.
If you don't believe that last statement, you haven't been paying attention. For example, even in so-called liberal California, the 2008 election ratified an amendment to their constitution affirming that marriage is to be defined as being between one man and one woman. Several other states did the same.
Only about 20% of the electorate identify themselves as liberal. More identify themselves as conservative.
But the Republican Party has gone far astray from the principles of conservatism. Worse yet, its leadership is hopelessly antiquated. Being old ourselves, we understand antiquated.
The technology of elections has changed. The Internet is now. It is no longer the "future". Matching funds from the feds ain't gonna cut it anymore. The Democrat's McCain-Feingold self-acclaimed "Campaign Reform" insured that fund raising will never be the same, either.
The reliance upon polls and focus groups by one William Jefferson Clinton, our first black president, evidently convinced our leaders that polls and focus groups were a reliable means for directing election campaigns. Like we should care what Democrats and Independents think.
Conservatives adhere to a number of strongly held positions. They can not be compromised in the name of bipartisanship. When they are modified to reflect the seemingly popular views of the folks as described by the print and broadcast media, they are no longer conservative. They are either mush or Democrat. When we move to the center for an election, we are either lying or no longer conservatives.
If we subscribed to those silly notions, we would be Democrats and we would vote Democrat.
It is high time we took back our party. One of the advantages of being old is that we actually remember Ronald Reagan. The man -- not some revisionist history version of the guy written by union directed educrats. Sticking to your guns (for real, as in the Second Amendment) works for us. Compromising our principles will not work.
The purpose of this book is to rally, perhaps, a few of you who have observed the debacle of 2008 and have wondered, like we have, just what practical steps we can take to crawl out of this hole of our own making.
And this book is chock full of ideas for beginning to win again. Even if you don't agree, it may tickle your grey matter to participate in the changes.
We hope you enjoy this tome. Feel free to contact us at keyes@jorika.com if you feel absolutely compelled to do so. But don't pretend you are a Conservative and then spout leftist garbage at us. We are extremely adept at spotting program Democrats pretending to be on our side...
